second guide
First person says:
The gates of life and death are opened; the dead walk, and to the living is revealed
the
Mystery: that every ending is but a new beginning. We meet in time out of time, everywhere
and nowhere, here and there, to greet the Lord of Death who is Lord of Life, and the Triple
Goddess who is the circle of rebirth.
Old Woman steps up from out of the darkness and says:
You foolish mortals - you are out of doors on All Soul's Night! There is no turning
back
from here - the only way out is through, the only way up is down. (Cackles aloud) But
if you
stay close by me on your journey, no harm will befall you...
First person says:
To open what is shut, to shut what is open...
Everyone leaves, walks through the veil, following Old Woman and guide.
At second station, Old Woman disappears. People come up to Man in Black.
You are now in my Realm. You have been here before and you will be here again. You and I we are old friends.
Although all about you is cold and dark, and the images you see may be frightening, it is merely illusion. You have passed through the veils to reach this place, but now you must push aside the veil over your own eyes.
Let your unconscious memories surface...no harm will befall you here.
PAUSE
Second person says:
The lives of three wattles, the life of a hound;
The lives of three hounds, the life of a steed;
The lives of three steeds, the life of a man;
The lives of three men, the life of an eagle;
The lives of three eagles, the life of a yew;
The life of a yew, the length of an age;
Seven ages from creation to doom.
PAUSE
Second person says:
This has been a year of trials; more so, it seems, than ever before. While we can only
ponder upon the meaning for this, yet we can reach deep within ourselves and call upon our
inner strength. Know you always that the Lord of Death and Lord of Life, and our Lady, the
Triple Goddess, walk with you on your journeys.
Guide takes them on down the path.
At third station, second person is slowly ringing a bell or beating drum.
Have a dumb supper laid out.
First person says:
Now is the time to remember those who have passed before us. Their spirits walk
among us tonight. If you are quiet, you may hear them. Silence!...a moment.
PAUSE
Second person says:
If strange things happen where she is
So that men say that graves open
And the dead walk, or that futurity
Becomes a womb, and the unborn are shed--
Such portents are not to be wondered at
Being tourbillions in Time made
By the strong pulling of her bladed mind
Through that ever-reluctant element.
PAUSE
First person says (gesturing at the dumb supper):
Death is not final; nor is life. Those whom we have lost are not truly gone; they are
merely awaiting their time to be born. Take a moment to remember them, and let there be joy,
not sorrow, in your hearts.
At fourth station, a line of candles or jack-o-lanterns leading to station to signify coming back out of earth.
Fire cauldron is going.
Man with horse skull prancing around and over fire.
Mother/Maiden figure says:
You have passed through the underworld on the most treacherous night of the year,
and returned unharmed, yet not unchanged. Your journey is not over; you have simply come
to a different place, which is yet the same. A cycle is completed; another one begins.
And as you return to the mortal world, the Goddess Etain rides among you, bringing with her the souls which will be born anew.
PAUSE
Second person says:
He shall be found.
He shall do wonders.
He shall reign.
He shall rest.
He shall depart.
On last line, Mother/Maiden pours water on Freddie.
Guide leads everyone back through the veil, then up to top of hill.
